In this 3 credit graduate-level course, students will determine their own definition of kindness, explore the benefits of kindness in their personal lives and for their students, classrooms, and schools. Students will have the opportunity to practice and experience the benefits of kindness by exploring easy and free ways to incorporate kindness into everything they do. 

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Learn about the course, instructor and other students
  2. Create their own definition of kindness
  3. Understand the science of kindness including the benefits of both mental and physical health
  4. Incorporate intentional acts of kindness into their personal life
  5. Identify how teaching kindness can benefit their students and overall school culture and climate
  6. Plan for incorporating one tip from the “9 Tips for Teaching Kindness in your Classroom” into their classroom or school 
  7. Plan for incorporating one tip from the “The Great Kindness Challenge” into their classroom or school
  8. Plan for incorporating one tip from the “The Random Acts of Kindness” into their classroom or school 
  9. Plan to incorporate one workplace kindness resources so that they can cultivate kindness with their colleagues
  10. Write a final reflection detailing how they will use the information they learned in this course.

Optional: Adams State University Credit
