Course Description

Build the confidence and expertise to teach AP with rigor and purpose. Advanced Placement Instruction: Designing Rigorous, College-Level Learning Experiences is designed for educators who want to create engaging, challenging AP courses that prepare students for success in advanced coursework and on the AP Exam. Whether you are new to AP or looking to strengthen your instruction, this course provides practical tools and proven strategies for designing college-level learning experiences that align with AP standards and expectations.

Participants will learn how to unpack Course and Exam Descriptions, design standards-aligned units and lessons, use AP-style assessments and scoring practices, and support diverse learners while maintaining academic rigor. By the end of the course, educators will have a ready-to-use AP instructional toolkit to help students build confidence, deepen understanding, and achieve strong outcomes without burnout.

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Critically examine the philosophy, expectations, and foundational structures of Advanced Placement programs in order to align instruction with College Board standards and principles of equitable access.

  • Construct AP course plans and instructional sequences that integrate course frameworks, backward design, pacing, and standards alignment to support student mastery of content and skills.

  • Implement rigorous, student-centered instructional practices that promote higher-order thinking, academic discourse, and scaffolded access to complex AP content for diverse learners.

  • Evaluate and respond to student performance through AP-aligned rubrics, data analysis, and feedback systems that inform instructional adjustments and strengthen achievement on AP-style assessments.

  • Synthesize course learning into a reflective action plan that supports exam readiness, continuous instructional improvement, and increased success for students in Advanced Placement classrooms.
