Course Description
Great schools are built by educators who learn, reflect, and grow together. This course helps teachers and school teams create strong Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) that make collaboration meaningful, supportive, and focused on student success. Educators will explore practical, research-based strategies for building trust, using data in helpful ways, and working together to make informed instructional decisions.
Through a hands-on, job-embedded approach, participants will apply what they learn within their own teams by setting goals, studying student progress, trying new strategies, and reflecting on what works. By the end of the course, educators will feel more confident contributing to effective PLCs, strengthening collaboration in their schools, and making a lasting impact on student learning.
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
-
Critically examine the principles and purpose of Professional Learning Communities as a framework for collaborative professional practice and improved student outcomes.
-
Establish and sustain collaborative team structures that promote shared responsibility, productive dialogue, psychological safety, and accountability within PLCs.
-
Apply the PLC inquiry cycle, common formative assessment practices, and collaborative data analysis to make informed instructional decisions that address student learning needs.
-
Design, implement, and assess instructional responses, interventions, and enrichment opportunities grounded in PLC collaboration and evidence of student performance.
-
Synthesize professional learning from PLC participation to evaluate team effectiveness, support continuous improvement, and demonstrate the relationship between collaboration, reflective practice, and student success.
