Course Description

All students deserve to feel safe, respected, and valued in their learning environments, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The LGBTQ+ Inclusive Classroom course offers resources and ideas to help educators foster a safe and supportive learning environment where students can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. This course also equips teachers with the knowledge and skills to effectively support LGBTQ+ students, enhancing their overall well-being and reducing the negative impact of bias and discrimination. Additionally, teachers will learn to create a more inclusive classroom environment that celebrates diversity, cultivates respect, and fosters a sense of community. Through this course, educators become advocates for LGBTQ+ inclusivity, promoting social justice and empowering all students to thrive in a diverse society.

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of LGBTQ+ identities, terminology, and issues
  • Implement inclusive curriculum and instructional strategies
  • Foster a safe and affirming classroom environment
  • Support LGBTQ+ students’ social-emotional well-being
  • Collaborate with families and communities
