Course Description
This course explores the principles and practices of restorative justice as applied within the classroom settings. Participants will learn how to create a classroom environment that fosters a sense of community, proactively prevents conflicts, and addresses student misconduct through restorative practices. Rooted in the traditions of Indigenous peacemaking, these practices focus on building strong relationships, promoting accountability, and repairing harm within the classroom. The course will guide educators in implementing restorative circles, affective language, and proactive strategies that support social-emotional learning, ultimately shifting the focus from punitive discipline to collaborative problem-solving and community building. Participants will also examine the challenges of integrating restorative practices into their classrooms and develop strategies to overcome these obstacles, ensuring a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
